Established in early 2007 by designer Chris Birch, Birchwood Design is a furniture and product design and manufacturing firm based in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Birchwood Design offers unique and innovative products to the New Zealand contemporary furniture and product markets. The majority of our products are both designed and crafted in house.  This close integration between the design and manufacturing processes is imperative, as it ensures all products are of the highest possible standard in respect of the balance between function, aesthetics and overall quality.

Birchwood Design provides superior design and craftsmanship and utilise the highest quality materials suitable for each project. Timber, as our primary resource, has an attraction that is embedded far deeper than the structural capabilities of the material. The real allure of timber is in the level of honesty, warmth and elegance which it portrays, attributes which are often non-existent in other materials. It is this sense of awareness for resources that contributes to Birchwood Design’s continuing commitment to minimising the environmental impacts of our work while providing innovative, functional and attractive furniture.

Chris graduated Auckland University of Technology in 2005 with a Bachelor of Spatial Design with Honours. Like many in the creative fields throughout New Zealand, Chris has a energetic nature and a innovative approach to design and utilises this character to design and craft engaging products which he is truly passionate about.

Alongside an evolving collection of his own designs, Chris regularly works with both private and commercial clients such as architects and interior designers to create truly individual products for specific projects and environments.
